AtlantiCare Shares Healthy-Living Tips for Nutrition Month

Eating a healthy diet can go a long way and March is all about learning how to accomplish that because it’s National Nutrition Month.

The wellness team at AtlantiCare in Egg Harbor Township is sharing some tips on how to accomplish a healthy lifestyle.

“Every day we’re healthy at AtlantiCare, but really this month we’re really encouraging the community and … employees to take that extra step to be just a little bit healthier [and] eat a little bit better this month,” said Laura Engelmann, community health and wellness manager, AtlantiCare.  

The first thing you can do is look at that plate and you want to make sure that half of that plate is fruits and vegetables.

The health system is sharing tips on Facebook throughout the month to help share healthy living tips with their followers.

“What you put in your body is so very important. If you’re filling your body with foods that aren’t very healthy it really has a trickle-down effect to your later outcomes in life and your health,” said Engelmann. ”Just a little bit of awareness of what you’re putting on your plate or putting in your lunchbox can really push you in the right direction.” 

She explains that there’s five components to look for on your plan to guarantee you’re getting all the right foods you need.  

“[The] first thing you can do is look at that plate and you want to make sure that half of that plate is fruits and vegetables,” said Engelmann. ”Add a quarter in for health[y] lean proteins and also whole grains, [and] make sure you add a little bit of healthy low-fat dairy too.”

It’s all about building meals that not only meet your health needs, but also fit your food preferences as well.

“If it’s not enough to understand the importance of healthy eating based on federal guidelines and suggestions, just how you feel when you do eat better is really going to motivate you to keep continuing that healthy lifestyle,” said Engelmann.

She says eating healthy can cause energy levels to rise.  

“Just healthy eating altogether is not only going to help you in the long run, but [also] in the immediate time to make you feel as though you can really get life accomplished,” said Engelmann.

These tips can help you to live a healthy lifestyle for years to come.
