Chino celebrates the heroics of healthy living

Superheroes brush their teeth and eat vegetables every day, and kids should too.

Chino’s Healthy Family Day, themed “Creating Healthy Heroes,” included entertainment and programs to educate youth on the importance of making healthy choices and how to create healthy habits in their lives.

The April 7 event was attended by about 400 people at Ayala Park.

The City of Chino’s Healthy Chino program and the Chino YMCA were event partners.

“The Healthy Family Day event serves as a platform to promote health and wellness resources and organizations within our community,” said Chino community services coordinator Jake Velasco.

Thirty-two vendors, including individuals from the community, non-profit groups, commercial groups, and food vendors, participated.

Sponsors were Kaiser Permanente, Inland Empire Health Plan, Chino Valley Medical Center and the Watson Land Co.

Healthy Chino offers a variety of low cost recreation programs such as Hike the Valley, a three-month hiking program, and the summer healthy grilling series.

Every third week of the month, Healthy Chino partners with the Master Gardeners of San Bernardino County to offer free garden workshops and children’s discovery workshops.

Healthy Chino programs and events can be found online at healthychino.com.
